Last week President Trump issued an Executive Order creating a task force to study the United States Postal Service (USPS) and return recommendations on solutions to create a more stable, financially viable national mail system. The task force is required to return its recommendations within 120 days. Printing Industries of America welcomes the President highlighting the daunting challenges faced by the USPS, particularly as the printing industry plays a critical role in the nation's mailing economy.
Fortunately, there is a set of bipartisan policy solutions awaiting a vote in the U.S. Congress that would bring timely financial stabilization to the USPS and seek to prevent a major rate hike proposal currently under review at the Postal Regulatory Commission.
This legislation, the Postal Reform Act of 2018 (S. 2629 and H.R. 756), is bipartisan and supported by both the mailing industry and postal labor unions. It contains pragmatic policy solutions that can be implemented now to reverse the downward trajectory of the USPS and to avert postal rate increases. Without legislation, the USPS will be able to raise postage rates dramatically over the next five years. PIA has been beating the drum for postal reform passage at every opportunity and we cannot let up now. Please lend your voice to the postal reform cause.
The need to fix the USPS has been raised to a level of highest priority by President Trump. PIA urges member companies to seize this opportunity to urge Congress and the White House to pass and sign the Postal Service Reform Act now.
Tell Congress it's time to deliver on postal reform! Thank you!
