Regional Council Annual Meetings

Presenting:

Midterm Review

  • New regulatory actions are down almost 70%.
  • The process of removing existing rules has been slow.
  • Inspections of printing operations have increased.

As we approach the midway point in the Trump Administration, it is time to do a mid-term exam on the success of his reductions to government regulation. Reducing regulations is a key feature of President Trump’s plan to stimulate the economy. So far, the record shows a major slowdown in new rules and a small, but growing, roster of new significant deregulatory actions. As compared to the Obama and Bush Administrations during the same time period, the number of new regulatory actions is down quite dramatically at almost 70 percent. The endeavor to remove existing rules has run into some headwind, so the progress has been slow.

Nevertheless, OSHA has remained aggressive in their enforcement activity with printing operations. Likewise, the states have picked up their inspections of printing operations to ensure they are properly managing their hazardous wastes. We will be covering these actions as well as the proposed deregulatory rules at the annual Printing Industries of Ohio • N.Kentucky Regional Council Meetings.
