Hurricane Florence's Supply Chain Effect

Source: Millcraft, September 20, 2018

To all our valued customers:

In keeping with our commitment to provide you with ongoing and relevant communication regarding the state of our industry and marketplace factors that could potentially impact your business, we want to take this opportunity to share some timely information on the aftermath of Hurricane Florence and its anticipated effect on our supply chain.

In addition to several suppliers shutting down their operations for the near term, the bigger disruption will likely come from loss of freight capacity as FEMA relief efforts in the Florence-affected areas take precedence in filling previously unutilized third-party carrier routes.

We are already seeing delivery delays - both incoming from the mills and outgoing to customers - and some degree of surge pricing for mill deliveries across the country as capacity tightens.

So, what should you do at this point?  Please be aware of this developing situation.  We will continue to monitor and keep you informed as we learn more. In the meantime, please reach out to your Millcraft account manager and let’s proactively plan to protect your business.  Let’s assess where there are opportunities to plan for delays, bring jobs “in progress” onto the Millcraft floor, and make sure we are scheduling in those extra couple days of lead time anywhere possible.

if you have specific questions or concerns regarding pending or future orders, please talk with your account manager about the best options for your needs, or simply email the Millcraft Just ask Team anytime at justask@millcraft.com.
